CIS Presentation 2

Today we had a presentation on social networking website. It was very interesting presentation because we learnt that even though keeping facebook private, people can find a way to look at your profile and find some personal information. Another interesting thing was that employees before the interview check all these social networking webiste to see what kind od person you are. He even showed that through social networking business he makes millions of dollars just through adding and tagging people.

CIS Presentation 1

Today I went to see the first of my two CIS presentations. The topic of today's presentation was learning about the CIS major and minor possibilities. The presentation covered not only the options you gain through adding a CIS major or minor to your transcript but also talked about common concerns of the CIS field. One of the interesting parts of the presentation was the discusion where the speaker told us that even though it is really hard to find a job, CIS major get the first preference because they alreday have had hands on experience with latest technology.

Twitter

I personally didnt find a whole lot of value in this presentation simply because I do not really use twitter. I think to a degree that it is good to have actual interaction within a business so that people get a face and a human to go with the name that they know.
While I think it is amazing she has been able to create a company and indeed an entire life/personality around her goings on on the web for me that is not a comfortable thing.
To be honest, I did not learn anything from the Twitter presentation.

CIS Presentation

Chris Penn’s presentation on branding yourself on the web was very informative. It has changed my perception of the level of privacy on the internet. The knowledge that anything I do on the internet is readily stored and accessible might potentially benefit to me or hurt me in the future. I googled my name and I couldn’t really find anything but then I googled flyingdutchman265 and I got a lot of results. Everything from Wikipedia and uncyclopedia edits, to a random lacrosse website that I bought something from once. The ease at which this information can be accessed is surprising and a lot could be learned from it by potential employers. Pretty soon the new age background check will be all online. Social networking sites such as facebook are also important to keep track of. My mom has asked me to look up potential employees on face book and find out information about them. I will now take greater steps to present myself in a positive way online.
